STF PowerFax™ PE Description
STF PowerFax™ Personal Edition provides a personal fax gateway for the Apple PowerTalk environment. The PowerFax software allows sending, receiving and viewing of fax documents.
After you install PowerFax, received faxes will be put into your PowerTalk Mailbox In Tray along with other types of mail. Faxes can be viewed by double-clicking them.
Mail can be sent to fax addresses directly from any application that supports the standard PowerTalk™ mailer.
Cover Page Sender's Name and PowerTalk Mailbox (In/Out Tray)
You should label your PowerTalk Mailbox In Tray with your own name (i.e. John Doe). The name of the Mailbox is used on the coverpage of outgoing faxes as the sender's name.
Compatibility with FaxSTF™ 2.x
If you own FaxSTF™ 2.x but wish to use PowerFax™, you must remove FaxSTF™ 2.x components before installing PowerFax™. The PowerFax Installer will not allow you to install if FaxSTF 2.x is present.
Compatibility with FaxSTF™ 3.x
FaxSTF™ 3.x and PowerFax™ will work together and cona be installed on the same computer. However, when your computer is configured in this way, keep the following in mind: when configuring CoverPage settings, always do so from the STF PowerFax™ service in the key chain. To locate the cover page settings: Open the PowerTalk Key Chain, open STF PowerFax™, click the Other Settings button, then click the Cover Page icon.
Compatibility with GlobalFax
GlobalFax and STF PowerFax™ can be installed on the same computer but one or the other must be either turned off or set to NOT answer automatically.
To send faxes with PowerFax make sure GlobalFax's auto-answer is turned off. To receive faxes with PowerFax you must also make sure PowerFax is set to answer.
To send faxes with GlobalFax make sure PowerFax is set to never answer. To receive faxes with GlobalFax you must also make sure GlobalFax is set to auto-answer.
Compatibility with Express Fax
Express Fax and STF PowerFax can be installed on the same computer but one or the other must be either turned off or set to NOT answer automatically.
To send faxes with PowerFax make sure Express Fax is turned off and any problems are resolved in the PowerTalk Out Tray. To receive faxes with PowerFax you must also make sure PowerFax is set to answer.
To send faxes with Express Fax, turn Express Fax off and back on. You may also need to set PowerFax to never answer. To receive faxes with Express Fax you must make sure PowerFax is set to never answer.
Note: Modem Vendors
If you would like to have your modem included in our Installer list, we will be happy to do so — after testing for compatibility. To have your modem tested for inclusion, please send — two — of each modem model to STF, Attn: Testing Department. We can only include the modem models you send to us, since we can not verify that similar versions will perform the same unless we have the modems with which to test.
Modems will not be returned because they are required to verify continuing compliance with future versions of FaxSTF and also to provide technical support to our mutual customers. When submitting modems for testing, please include the name of a person within your organization to contact if any questions arise.
Known Limitations
PowerFax (gateway)
• The information page of the PowerFax key, a part of your Key Chain, will not display "off-line" when the "I'm at" location is set to "off-line."
• Please do not rely on the fax phone number displayed by the OCE Mailer when you double-click a fax address in the Mailer's Recipients box because the displayed number may be inaccurate if Smart Dialing is used. The fax phone number that will be dialed is displayed in the "System will dial" section of the Fax Address template. (To open the FaxAddress Template, open the business card - normally located in your Personal Catalog - containing the fax address.)
• The OutTray displays the same "waiting" status when a letter is waiting to be processed and while a letter is being converted to fax. Consequently, after sending a letter to a fax address, the status will remain to be "waiting" for some time, even though PowerFax has already begun processing the letter. The conversion process may take several minutes depending on the complexity of the letter and the speed of the computer.
• After restarting, some of the error messages posted in the InTray/OutTray may have become out-of-date because the problems have been resolved. If this occurs, click Resolve to remove the message (rather than to resolve the problem).
FaxView
• The fax image disappears at 2400% scale on Mac LC. This problem may occur when displaying at 2400% scale with Precise Measurements. If this problem occurs on your computer, switch to Precise Bitmap Alignment or 1200% scale to alleviate the problem.
• If you do not add any recipients to the mailer, FaxView will attempt to send the the fax but will inform you that it could not complete the send command because of a program error. To avoid this problem, simply make sure you have added recipients to the mailer before attempting to send.
